The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology is a growing phenomenon. Located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology began in 1990 amongst humble surroundings as a small charitable society called the Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (C-DEST). In 1991,
recognizing its potential, the C-DEST was made a “Grant-in-Aid” institute of the Government of Kerala and renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (RGC-DEST), becoming the first institute in the country to be named after Sri Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minster of India. In quick time, the institute attained national and international recognition with leading discoveries and findings in medical and plant biotechnology. The institute also received honors for being among the top PhD schools in biotechnology. In 2007 the Union Cabinet of the Government of India took the landmark decision to make RGCB a national research centre.

Pay scale ( वेतन ) : The selected incumbent will be placed in the Level-15 (As per 7th CPC) / HAG Scale Rs. 67,000/- - 79,000/- + annual increment @ 3% as per 6th CPC. Other benefits/allowances shall be as per rules applicable for appointment on deputation including Short-Term Contract /Absorption basis.
Educational requirements ( शैक्षिक आवश्यकता ) : PhD in Science or Engineering discipline /MD/M.Tech./M.E.E/M.S. or equivalent. Minimum 15 years of research experience in the field of specialization. Excellent track record, hand in publication, patent and award.
Desirable qualifications ( वांछनीय योग्यता ) : Experience in successfully running large programme, centre, institution. Experience of guiding research activities in any of the field of Life Science.
Eligibility criteria ( योग्यता ) : 4.1. Scientists from Central / State Governments, Research Institutes, Autonomous Bodies, Government funded Research Organizations / Institutes, etc. 4.2. Holding analogous post on regular basis in the parent Department; or 4.3. With 5 years service in post with Grade Pay of Rs. 10,000/- or equivalentin the parent cadre / Department and possesses the qualification & experience as below
Age limit ( आयु सीमा ) : The period of deputation including period of deputation in other ex-cadre posts, held immediately preceding this appointment in the same or some other organization / Department should ordinarily not exceed 5 years. The maximum age limit for appointment on deputation (ISTC) should not exceed 58 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications.

In the event of more than 10 candidates being short-listed by screening the applications, a written test will be conducted before the selection interview and only those who are successful in the written test will be interviewed. No TA/ DA will be given for appearing in the interview.
