National Institute of Technology Rourkela formerly Regional Engineering College Rourkela (REC Rourkela), is a publicly funded institute of higher learning for engineering and technology located in the steel city of Rourkela, Odisha, India.
It is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India and has been recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007. National Institute of Technology Rourkela is a deemed university, and is governed by its Board of Governors, which is responsible for the overall superintendence, direction and control of its affairs. The Director is responsible for managing the day-to-day affairs of the institute. He heads the Senate, which frames the curriculum and conducts the examinations.

Pay scale ( वेतन ) : Rs. 25000/- per month 1st and 2nd year and Rs. 28000/- per month in 3rd year. 20% HRA as applicable
Educational requirements ( शैक्षिक आवश्यकता ) : First division throughout career in M.Sc. or M.Tech. (Atmospheric Science /Meteorology /Climate Science /Oceanography / Physics / Mathematics / or Equivalent). Candidates with NET or GATE are preferable.
Desirable qualifications ( वांछनीय योग्यता ) : Working experience in (i) Atmospheric mesoscale models, (ii) in Unix or Linux environment (ii) software like matlab/GraDS/NCL/ etc.
Job responsibilities / description ( उत्तरदायित्व) :Research work related to project. Candidate may register for Ph.D. at NIT Rourkela if he/she qualifies the Institute criteria
